2:11 he is the really useful engine that we all know
In 1962 Thornaby had a fleet of 183 steam engines on the books + a couple of dozen diesels (in service) - and a couple of dozen additional diesels (ordered but not yet delivered).
Wouldn't it be wonderful, just for once, that we could get commentary that a) doesn't sound like an utter that from a bygone era but more importantly b) can actually pronounce ANY of the place names. If this guy could get it wrong, he did! Banavie not Bana vie CorpaCH not Corpak Locheil not Lochale Arisaig not Ari Zaig Mallaig not Ma laig It's not difficult.

Wonderful, everything that made this country, including an intelligent clear narrator
This film should be shown in all schools.
Outstanding 💯 what a bit of history
It is a shame, most of the trains here were featured in thomas and friends, and then scrapped
I am a little late commenting on this but as a matter of record I am a Hayling Island lad and lived in the first house over the bridge from Havant. As a lad I could see the old Billy going by from my bedroom window, my playground was underneath the central turntable on the bridge across the langstone harbour crossing, when the train went over, ended up with hair full of rust that dropped from above. When Beecham closed the line it was stated the bridge was weak and could not be repaired so they cut all the timber baulks off the top of the bridge and asked the Royal Navy to blow up the concrete piers below to provide seagoing navigation. On the day of the demolition we were all advised to open our windows and doors prior to the explosion, then at the alotted time there was the biggest bang and shock wave you can imagine, result? Well you can still see those concrete piers still standing today, not a scratch on em! Never trust a bluddy expert.
Thank you... I use to watch her come past our playground at Bolingbroke Playground in Battersea. Of course no knowledge of her then just she was different looking (Pullman set up). Now of course as you get older you think of these things. 🤔

fun fact: thomas in the day out with thomas event is technically the only existing e2's irl (i think)
My son remembers that Rosie and Fizz and Thomas and Milo are at Southampton Docks
I love how the E2 is technically the most recognized steam locomotive in the world, yet when these things were in service barely anyone paid attention to them.
It's been said before, but I do wish an E2 was preserved. The fact they're the basis for Thomas aside, they were elegantly designed locomotives, and had a surprisingly long and productive career. Whilst not the most amazing or well-performing locomotives ever made, the E2s found good use as shunters and were clearly quite helpful in some scenarios.
If anyone's interested, the unmentioned A4 we briefly saw as Mallard was coming 'off shed' was "Falcon".
E2 Qué es la comolotora más favorita??????

The real Life is Thomas, Rosie, Rebecca, and Henry
I visited the area in 1957 and 1958 on cycling/hosteling holidays. We left our bikes at Welsh Bicknor Youth Hostel and walked, returning by train As the film shows the auto-train "pushed" from Ross to Monmouth but it was only a single carriage. An extra one had been added for the enthusiasts. Later we were charmed by this train; one departure from Momoutn at 18.05 we called the "Six-Five Special" - Six-Five Special was the BBC's first attempt at a rock-and-roll programme, launched in February 1957. Its title was derived from its broadcast time, as it aired at 6:05 on Saturday evening. However, the first time we saw it emerging from the tunnel at Symonds Yat we were delighted; We cried "It's one of the new diesels," then as the locomotive end appeared, "Oh it's just a steam train." Most trains in those days were steam hauled. .
*Hop Pickers (not hot pickers. Maybe they were hot, but that's not the point.)
Was this narrated by Nicholas Courtney?

1:04: so those white circles on the smoke box door and above the buffers said what jobs the engines were assigned that day. I always wondered what those were.
The beauty of the e2 is stupendous and magnificent
Put one of our E classes (either the 2-4-2 or 0-6-2) and they’d do better than an E2
What nostalgia. Never thought I would see an excerpt of 'Railway Roundabout' again. Some of my earliest TV memories were of this programme and it's just as I remember it: grainy black & white film with a 'received English' commentator. It was still great though.
I also have a Hardback Book called The Railway Policeman. The Story of the Constable on the Track. By J. R. WHITBREAD.
I have a Hardback DORLING KINDERSLEY DK EYEWITNESS GUIDES Book of TRAIN. Discover the story of railways - from the days of steam to the high - speed, sophisticated trains of today. In association with THE NATIONAL RAILWAY MUSEUM.
The E2 tank engine was the best I would like to go back in time to see it + I think this is the only video of the E2 tank btw wheel slip 4:35
There are some short tunnels between Glenfinnan and Lochailort.
Fun fact, E2s No. 32105 and No. 32109 had been modified with bigger ladders for harbour work, weirdly they didn't add bigger buffers, which most harbour shunters had.
Thomas Henry Rosie And Rebecca Were Here!
So are the thomastards
Es Thomas the tank engine
3:01 "Henry says pulling trains is hard, but I think it's easy" ,said Thomas
Bro you look at this e2 backing up with the load off rolling stock, the picture thomas the tank engine shunting coaches at knappford station in season 1 episode 1. Who's your favorite thomas and friends narrator if you have one. 2:35
And also add Thomas grumbling about wanting to " see the world"
At last I see footage of the class of my childhood friend Thomas the tank engine
Great to see Southampton docks when it was a proper busy port. Railways, and proper liners, ships. Not the ghastly blocks of flats Cunard has now.
it thomas e2 class tank engie
They are beautiful.
Soooo interesting! Great to see....
This footage is VERY a rare so it is the only e2 footage exist😊
